"Whenever the people are well-informed, they can be trusted with their own government."
-Thomas Jefferson

I would like to say that I see supporting or troops as not putting them in harms way attacking a country of minimal if any threat to us, a country and people we will 'save' by destroying. Please read this piece by Howard Zinn

When peaceful dissent is dangerous, what is the state of Democracy in America?

Read about poet Sam Hamill of Copper Canyon Press, the fellow who has brought us the incredibly successful website Poets Against the War. People who take the time to think, by definition, are people of conscience, I suppose (Reference Mark Twain quotation below). I've read about citizens in Nazi Germany (My country right or wrong my country) who saw train loads of Jewish folks going into a camp, and seemingly disappear. The camp's smokestack would belch smoke. When asked, they had no idea what happened to the people. I first learned of Lysistrata from a Todd Rungren song years ago. Today will be marked by the plays performance, 1004 readings in 59 countries.

Fear has always been a tool to lead a populace about, the concentrated media is a super tool.

Are you familiar with the term Psy-Ops? The science of propaganda is well developed. Ask yourself questions about the news you see and hear; read between the lines- what isn't being said?

"The owners and managers of the press determine which person, which facts, which version of the facts, and which ideas shall reach the public."

Report by the Commission on Freedom of the Press, quoted in Democracy for the Few, by Michael Parenti
and Don't Blame the People, by Robert Cirino

"Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger."

— Herman Goering

"We have the greatest opportunity the world has ever seen, as long as we remain honest — which will be as long as we can keep the attention of our people alive. If they once become inattentive to public affairs, you and I, and Congress and Assemblies, judges and governors would all become wolves."
- Thomas Jefferson

"Next the statesmen will invent cheap lies, putting the blame upon the nation that is attacked, and every man will be glad of those conscience-soothing falsities, and will diligently study them, and refuse to examine any refutations of them; and thus he will by and by convince himself that the war is just, and will thank God for the better sleep he enjoys after this process of grotesque self-deception."
-Mark Twain

"The Central Intelligence Agency owns everyone of any significance in the major media."
- William Colby

Media quotations found while looking for the half remembered Goering quote above. The site looks promising but I am not familiar with it.
