War Criminals: Ours
President Bush demanded Sunday that U.S. troops held captive in Iraq be treated humanely, warning that Iraqis who do otherwise will be punished as war criminals.

Returning to the White House from Camp David, Bush said he did not have all the details of what he called a potential capture, but added: "We expect them to be treated humanely, just like we'll treat any prisoners of theirs that we capture humanely. If not, the people who mistreat the prisoners will be treated as war criminals."

I offer up the link to the New Yorker article "Torture at Abu Ghraib" by Seymour Hersh

Here are some photos of sadistic US soldiers (link includes 60 Minutes ll link) obviously enjoying doing the bidding of Military Intelligence. What are the odds that these "Bad Apples", these sick people in uniform will be treated as war criminals? The Hersh article points out that Private Lynndie England, the woman with the cigarrette in the pictures was sent back to Fort Bragg- she is pregnant. It seems someone wrote the word "Pappist" on a POW's body. Could that be a misspelled Catholic slur?

If we can't hold ourselves up as an example of how to treat people with dignity and respect, we can't ask that other nations do that to our soldiers."--Brig. Gen. Mark Kimmitt

You'll note that civilian "contractors" are implicated in this "military use" of torture and humiliation.

Riverbend from the blog Baghdad Burning offers a view of Abu Ghraib (posted March 29 of this year) from a young woman who had been there- and whose mother, at the time of writing was still there.

Iraq Occupation and Resistance Report is a web resource that offers a great deal of information about the treatment of prisoners in Iraq- and documents the Occupation...
