Stephen Colbert: Jester -in- Chief

Why is it that the only straight shooter on tv is a comedian who plays a right wing windbag?

Perhaps Stephan Colbert is following in the long tradition of Jesters; folks who made the court laugh by using their wit to utter truths that would see advisors risk a beheading

See Stephen Colbert as keynote speaker at the National Press Club Dinner- he is funny, of course, but more than that, he spoke truth to power, loud and proud, lampooning Bush luminaries left and right- well, right and right to be accurate, Scalia, Pace, McClellan, Snow- overall telling how it is with Mr Bush and the present administration. Scathing but true, Colbert has shown incredible courage, testicular fortitude, if you will, as he has used his wit to call Mr Bush onto the carpet.

A must see. Crooks and Liars has Quicktime and a lower resolution .wmv videos available.

Thank You Stephen Colbert has links to You Tube that download quickly- with the added benefit that you can leave a "thank you" comment to Mr Colbert. In these political times it seems important to honor a man that has really stuck his neck out for We the People, using his unique brand of comedy to both entertain and inform.

Daily Kos has the transcript.

You're a good man, Stephen Colbert. Thanks.
